Context

Street + Garden were approached by GMG to be part of a team of suppliers for SIT along with emerging Design Talent Alexander Lotersztain. Ideas that reflected the function of SIT were developed in association with GMG and Alex who was sharing our studio at that time.

Considerations

The idea for both private and gathering places to enhance the learning experience was adopted as a theme for furniture shapes with references to pixels as part of decorative and functional elements that became part of the furniture identity. There was a need for robust but visually light and distinctive ideas that enhance the total built environment, which were a key consideration as they always are when creating comfortable places for people to live and work.

Opportunities

Trying out new ways to make street furniture is always on the agenda, so with changes to our fabricator’s ability to cut and shape metal using CNC machinery this became a major driver for how this furniture was made for SIT.
