Context

Street + Garden was commissioned to create an eye-catching feature seat as an enhancement to the set down/pick up point at the Airport Novotel, Brisbane. Something that would be a statement piece, but fit seamlessly with the overall architectural features of the building. A resting place while waiting for your next adventure!

Considerations

Architectural features in the facade of the Novotel offered a reference to shapes that would be appropriate for our feature seat. Bold primary colours were adopted for Backrests that fold and blend into the seating plane of what are essentially very simple clean lines, formed out of sheet metal to create the overall seat.

The Bench features two back elements, one yellow, and one Red. Our idea was to create a place for two people (yellow) and for 1 person (red) at a distance from each other because often only one person will sit on a seat once occupied. So we generally look to find solutions that understand and enhance the user experience.

Opportunities

For projects big or small, the team at Street + Garden are always excited about the chance to be part of enlivening public spaces no matter the size of the opportunity, from a one-off specific piece such as this one to a complete and coordinated suite. This opportunity allowed us to explore a new idea that has become our Flight Suite of Products.
